United Way mobilizes resources where — and when — they’re needed most, from flooding in India to wildfires in Maui. That means raising money as well as  distributing food, water and essential supplies. It also means facilitating support from other United Ways. And it all happens in in real time.

Long-term recovery needs can last for years, but United Way is there for the long haul. United Way’s Hurricane Katrina recovery team operated in New Orleans for 10 years. So we could quickly begin relief and recovery operations when severe floods hit the same neighborhoods just five months apart in 2016. That robust mobilization — of resources, volunteers, case management, construction services and financial assistance to NGOs — can be replicated around the world.

Some 114 million people were displaced in 2023 due to war and violence. United Ways across Europe helped Ukrainian refugees. And we continue to play a vital role in strengthening community supports in their new countries.
